A wonderfully raw, darkly comedic road trip through the Outback, starring Heartbreak High’s Sherry-Lee Watson and Will McDonald on the run from Australian stars Miranda Otto and Noah Taylor.
Strap in for a 1980s-era Australian road trip like you’ve never experienced before.
Writer-director Dylan River (Mystery Road: Origin), one of Australia’s most celebrated new talents, presents a wonderfully raw, darkly comic new series starring Heartbreak High’s Sherry-Lee Watson and Will McDonald alongside Australian acting greats Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings) and Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders).
Thou Shalt Not Steal tells the frenetic story of troublesome yet fierce 17-year-old Robyn (Watson), recently escaped from juvenile detention, and the sweet but naïve Gidge (McDonald), who meet by chance and end up begrudgingly intertwined in each other’s lives. With the cops on her trail, Robyn learns a shocking truth about her father as she and Gidge set off on a road trip looking for answers while both grappling with the realities of their dysfunctional pasts. Hot on their heels are Gidge’s dad (Taylor), a less than godly preacher, and Maxine (Otto), a taxi-less taxi driver, both desperate to catch up to Robyn and Gidge for their own nefarious reasons.
As the series showrunner, River’s talents shine brightly in this new eight-part series, a gloriously unorthodox coming-of-age journey (think End of the F***ing World meets Fargo) enhanced by Australia’s stunning Northern Territory. Freshly reunited from the Netflix hit Heartbreak High, Watson and McDonald entertain and endear in their moving and hilarious performances as two teens in the most extraordinary (and sometimes extreme) of circumstances.
